Ticket #15125 - Product images - size

Hi Marek,

We’d like to reduce the size of product images on our website. The actual images have 931 x 1290, and we’d like for them be be around 650px x 901px. I have set up a new size, but when I uploaded it, the images look smaller (see the image i’ve attached. The image on the left has 800px, smaller looks even worse than that).

I have thought about changing images parameters in back office, and there’s one called large_default which has size 1000 x 1300, i’ve changed it to 650 x 901, and cleared cache but it didn’t help. Is there something obvious I am missing there?

I have a question. Do you want to reduce the section what display the image https://take.ms/eWzwY8, or you want to reduce the physical image size to make the weight of image smaller?

We want to reduce the physical image size, the section needs to stay the same. Sorry for not being clear.

No problem.
You have to change the size of “large” images https://take.ms/2dvA6

Hmm… that’s what I’ve done. I have set up the large image to be 650 x 901 and then cleared cache, browsed the website on private window and it still doesn’t look right. I’ve attached image to show what i mean - on the right is our actual image (which visually looks ok, but its size is too big), on the left the image i’ve uploaded (650 x 901)

forgot to attach the file… ;)

you have to Regenerate images, see the button in the very bottom of that page

Thank you Marek.
Two more questions regarding the image settings.

1. All those image types are named with the “_” - we’ve heard you should avoid using “_” in urls. Is that true? And then - are those types set up properly for products/category/brand/supplier/stores? Can you confirm all this looks ok? I have attached the image.
2. The image format - we use jpg on our website, and just noticed there was a “Use PNG only if the base image is in PNG format.” selected. Can I safely change it to ‘jpg’ format instead?

1. I suppose that’s related to the pages, not to the image urls. “are those types set up properly for” -yes, it should be ok
2. yes, I think. You also have to regenerate images after changing settings

Hi Marek,

sorry for bothering again, just a quick one: do you have any image size recommendation to use with your theme?
