Ticket #21663 - SEO problem desktop version webshop
Hi,
Could you help us with below:
Our SEO company has done a lot of changes the last month’s on a lot of pages (content). Now they are telling me that google is not indexing the desktop page but only the AMP mobile version.
We have already add a new sitemap to help Google indexing the site, but they still tell me that only the mobile/AMP version is indexing.
We have made a lot of changes to the mobile/AMP version so I don’t want to shut this version down. Could you help us to solve this issue or tell us how other customers work this out with SEO in this template?
Thanks,
Kind Regards,
Patrick

When I try to search one of your product I see correct link in the search result https://take.ms/0Dh7o
Yes, but what they mean is when you search on “CheapOutdoor” you see first the mobile version and than the English version (desktop) in stead of the dutch desktop version. For the best SEO results they need the dutch version of the desktop on top. They told us that has to do something with the AMP.
The most important line is present in the AMP source code: https://take.ms/Zqbbp It shows the link to the desktop version for google.
I have found out similar thread on google groups where you can read in details what could be wrong - https://groups.google.com/g/amphtml-discuss/c/iFWgFcqcWj4
Hi,
I have talked again today with the SEO company. They told me for example when you search on ‘bivitent’ or ‘rugzak met waterzak’ you get the mobile/AMP pages in the results. So when you click on it you get the mobile version in stead of the desktop version.
I have checked out the page you mentioned but the Canonical links are ok. And in the robot.txt as well as httaccess I can’t find any redirect to mobile.
Do you have any idea how to solve this issue? I wanted to use the AMP for mobile, but they want to shut it down. So I have to resolve this issue.
Thanks,
Patrick
Honestly, I have no idea how to change that. Because that’s Google decide what link to show.
BUT I have make a test in incognito mode and don’t see the issue described by the SEO company.
Look at the screenshot - https://take.ms/ITj8H as you can see I have tried to search “rugzak met waterzak” and google shows me link to desktop version
Hi Fred,
Thanks. Ok than I have to try to contact somebody at Google about this.
Hopefully they can help to solve this issue.
Have a good weekend.
Kind Regards,
Patrick
Hi Fred,
I checked the sitemap of the site. Could i have to do something with:
https://cheapoutdoor.nl/1_nl_0_sitemap.xml
This is a part of the sitemap where you see something about the mobile version.
So could this be that google is looking at this and they idex the amp first?
How did you generate that sitemap?
If you are using some module for that, there should be an option to exclude some links
Hi Fred,
It’s the standard sitemap module in the prestahop enviroment.
How and what should I excluded to make sure the index is following first the desktop module and than the mobile/AMP version? Or for better SEO I have to exclude the AMP?
as I can see every amp page is excluded https://take.ms/WNPPn
I have no idea why that module add those links into sitemap
Hi Fred,
I guess you solved this issue. The blue checkmark is when you excluded the amp. So the amp wasn’t excluded.
Hopefully this solved the issue.
Thanks,
Kind Regards,
Patrick
You are welcome!
